Flushable Wipes Not Flushable

Craig now understands why plumbers get paid the big bucks!


In life every now and again we get to learn little lessons. Ours this past week was Flushable Wipes Not Flushable. Thursday morning the boys heard a bubbly sound coming from the bathroom on the main floor. It looked like the toilet was backed up, so Craig tried to plunge it. As he was plunging it water started gushing out from the bottom of the toilet. Craig grabbed towels and tried to mop up, he ran downstairs and saw that it was leaking through the ceiling. He had a business meeting he had to go to and I had to volunteer at the book fair. We figured we would take care of it when we got home. Well we had a mess to take care of. The water had come down onto our food storage shelves and left piles of sewer water everywhere, YUCK! Of course this is the last shelf we had left to move things from cardboard to Rubbermaid's. The boys were great and jumped right in moving things off the shelves, throwing stuff away, cleaning up gross stuff. When someone would start complaining Dawson would pipe up "This is family bonding". I can think of a lot of other things I would rather do bonding with my children. They did get to see what kind of food storage we have, they wondered why I had so much water, and they were sure it would last us years. Sorry it would only last a couple of months. The only thing that was really a sad lost, was my childhood cabbage patch doll my mom had made for me. She was soaked through with sewer water, and starting to mold on the back.(We think the water had been leaking for at least a week, the doll was on the top shelf.) After dinner at Wendy's Craig borrowed a 50 foot snake and he snaked the pipe probably 50 times until it would come out clean without any flushable wipes on it. It was a long night with lots of bleach and cleaning. I hope that we never have to experience that again. So if anyone who reads this blog uses flushable wipes STOP!
